Always great! Love the pink flamingo! Cute bar with great vibe! Bartenders are friendly and food is great! Loved the mini clam chowder as well. Great place in West Village.
This is one of our favorite happy hour place in the city. We got the oysters and the salmon tartare. The salmon came with a delicious umami sauce. The lobster Mac n cheese had a generous amount of seafood. We also got the cauliflower brown butter pecan. The sauce was so good and was a unique flavor to go with cauliflower.
Stopped here for happy hour and sat outside - great vibes and service. The drinks were very good! But the food was okay and a bit overpriced. It is located in a beautiful spot and street so if you decide to sit outside and the weather it's be perfect. It's also very close to Washington square park, a nice walk there after is a must!
Love love this spot so much. The restaurant is super cute, location is key as well. Tons to do after you're done with your dinner. I came here for happy hour during the week and it was so busy but luckily I had made a reservation and I'm so glad we did. Their happy hour is exceptional! They have oysters, the seafood is so fresh and the cocktails are so good. Everything on this menu is delicious, i just want to come here every week. So good!
**FYI: Their HH now ends at 6pm from TU-SUN** Had reservations as a party of 2 on a Wed night at 6:15. We were hoping to making it for their HH, but their hours updated to 6pm instead of 6:30! Regardless, we still ended up ordering from their Raw Bar. We ordered 1/2 dozen LI Oysters and 1/2 dozen other ones I forgot the name of. Lol We also got the Salmon Tartare, which was fresh and had a delicious sesame sauce - YUM! Their Lobster Knuckles were recommended by our server + it was a great move because they were delicious! It's an escargot-style dish and comes with 2 pieces of bread to pair with the yummy garlic butter sauce. To pair with everything, we ordered their Kale Salad, which had delicious roasted chickpeas and crunchy croutons. Phenomenal staff here who didn't rush my friend and I out - we stayed for 3 hrs! They also give complimentary chocolate puddings to end the meal, which was a lovely touch. Comfortable interior with a nice ambiance. Overall, would come back!
Came on a Saturday night with a group of 7 and got seated outside. The service sucked. We literally had to flag down our waiter for menus and it took 30 minutes for our cocktails to come out. My tequila espresso martini was super strong. I will say.... The oysters and food are awesome. We got two dozen mixed oysters for the table. They were all super fresh and the homemade vinegar hot sauce is divine. I ordered the cold lobster roll with fries as my main. The fries were super crispy. The lobster roll was on the smaller side but still tasty. My husband got the fish tacos (don't come with a side) and they were sooo tasty. Fried super well and the green sauce on top was delicious. At the end of the meal, you got a complimentary chocolate pudding. Hits the spot!
Came by on a Monday (happy hour all evening) after work with a friend. Their happy hour drinks and oyster/ clam ($1.50 ea) were great, but their HH food options were bleh. Ordered tacos (tiny), clam chowder (shot cup size, talk about tiny) for $3 each - better off ordered regular size for $10. Would recommend for HH drinks and oyster/ clams with regular dishes. Ended spending more because HH food was not filling.
Visited on friday afternoon at 5pm ish. The place is not too big and seats get filled up pretty fast for happy hour. So try to go a little bit early. They open at 4:30. There are both indoor and outdoor seating. There are plenty of parking spaces around this restaurant but be ready to circle around for a while... (depending on the day and time) The staffs were all very helpful from the beginning to the end. Helped us with our selections. We ordered happy hour calamari, spinach and artichoke dips, oysters and little neck clamps. Calamari was fried just right. Spinach and artichoke were very creamy. Oyster and little neck clamps were fresh. Sometimes, happy hour places may give not so fresh oysters, but this place was great. Fresh, no fishy smell Def recommended
I feel like this is such an unpopular opinion, but my therapist says I need to be more vulnerable so I really want y'all to see me: I normally don't like making reservations because it's such a commitment. I have to be at this exact place at this exact time on this exact date? What if I don't want oysters in 10 days? What if future me wants tapas? What if he wants Thai food? What if someone commissions him to write a novel next week and he needs to go to Japan for inspiration? This issue is especially highlighted in New York, as you have to make a res 10 days in advance for seemingly everything... All this to say, walking into Mermaid Oyster Bar with the res I made 9 days in advance to make their happy hour on a Friday had me feeling like a BOSS. Getting walked to our 4 top for 2 of us as the hostess removed the "reserved" plaque had me feeling like Frank Lucas. All these people fighting tooth and nail for a tiny stool at the bar to get in on the happy hour had me thinking "why didn't you dorks just make a res........" I was sitting there ordering 18 oysters ($1.50 each), 4 mini tacos ($3 each), and $10 cocktails feeling like El Chapo if he was chilling in a beautiful seaside village in New England.... well El Chapo is probably not hitting happy hours to save money nor is he in New England but y'all get me. Mermaid Oyster Bar was fantastic, I been telling everyone about it since. I haven't seen any place like it in the city. I felt like I was in a cute little fishing village hehehehe. This experience has me beginning to understand the appeal of far out reservations more and more, but still feel how I feel. I like to stay flowy. Like water. THANK YOU MERMAID OYSTER BAR ILL SEE Y'ALL SOON! PROBABLY FOR A BAR SEAT THOUGH IM NGL! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews
